I was very disappointed at the lack of enthusiasm for this year’s World Aids Day, which is held annually on December 1.

I saw very few people wearing red Aids awareness ribbons this year. Have we all grown complacent, or do we no-longer care?

There are currently over 77,000 people living with HIV in the UK and that number is growing.

The Health Protection Agency stated that there were 7,734 new diagnoses in 2007 alone.

Worldwide, of course, it’s a much bigger problem, with an estimated 33 million people living with HIV. And sadly there are already 14 million Aids orphans.

Surely these facts alone should make us all be more aware.

Is it too much to ask to drop a few coins in an Aids charity collection tin and wear a red ribbon with pride on this one day of the year?
