Police are still trying to search for witnesses five months after a motorway crash in which a 29-year-old man was killed.

Ross Shears died when the car he was travelling in collided with a Ford Transit van on the M40 between junction seven at Milton Common and junction six at Lewknor at around 5.30pm on Saturday, July 12.

Mr Shears’ Fiesta overturned in a field and the white van, registration number KN03 YRR, ended up in a hedge.

The driver and passenger of the van fled from the scene and two people arrested in connection with the death have since been released by police.

Detectives investigating the death have now released a photograph of a man at the scene they believe may hold vital information and are appealing for two other people who stopped at the scene to come forward.

Sgt Jack Hawkins, of Bicester roads policing, said: “We are trying to trace three possible witnesses who attended the collision scene and could help us with our inquiries.

“The first is a man who gave first aid to the occupants of the fiesta. “He is white, around 40 years old, medium to stocky build, 5ft 6ins to 5ft 8ins tall, tanned with short, spiky dark hair.

“He was wearing glasses and had a foreign accent that has been described as South African. He was wearing a black, short sleeved rugby-style top with the words New Zealand printed on the front.

“The shirt also had a white collar and grey flecked panels running down each side.

“There were also a man and woman who comforted a relative of Ross Shears at the scene.

“The woman is possibly called Leila and we believe she could work in a hair salon in London.

“We want to trace these people and I urge anyone who recognises these descriptions to contact me.

“It has nearly been five months since the collision happened and we are continuing to investigate every avenue to find out what happened and establish the surrounding circumstances.”

Mr Shears and his family were driving home to Crowborough in East Sussex after a reunion with family in Kennington when the crash happened.
