Sir – Having been told that the cost of the Bonn Square renovation was £2m, anticipation was great for the opening on Friday evening when I looked around it.
I was horrified to see the central obelisk in memoriam to the 1st Oxford Batallion lost in the First World War. It certainly had not been restored — some names are slightly obliterated and not easy to read which would have been appropriate and right to restore and on the back of the memorial there was green graffiti. Also, several formal trees have been planted. Why was the tree removed which a protester sat in for several days ?
Might I suggest that this is ‘New World order’ and I would like to know where the £2m has been spent.
