Simon Webbe required medical attention yesterday after a Bush Battle went wrong.

Former Blue singer Simon, 30, undertook the ‘Hog Roast’ stamina trial alongside personal trainer Carly Zucker and former mayor of London candidate Brian Paddick.

The celebrities were strapped onto rotating boards which turned 360 degrees over ‘flames’ underneath. The winner of the challenge - who would then be immune from the first public eviction from camp, later this week - was who could stay on being ‘roasted’ for longest.

First to go was Brian Paddock, who lasted nearly two hours before declaring he was bored and had had enough of the challenge. Both Simon and Carly had nearly reached the three hour mark when disaster struck.

Simon’s chest became unstuck from the ties keeping him on the board and fell off to the floor, while the board – with his legs still strapped to it - carried turning, twisting his body badly. The challenge was immediately stopped and Simon received medical attention, appearing to have a hurt leg.

After a night of rest he was said to have made a good recovery by this morning (23.11.08).

Camp officials received news that a Rough-scaled snake – one of the 12 most deadly snakes in the world – had been spotted by the celebrity’s showers.

They dispatched a snake expert, who promptly managed to remove the animal before Carly, 24, arrived to shower.

Camp snake handler Bob said: “We got a call saying a snake was sighted hanging around – it was a Rough-scaled snake. “Carly was in the shower and had her foot on the very rock that the snake had been hiding behind.”

Carly has been very carful to retain her modesty while changing since coming to the camp, but yesterday bared her bottom after letting her towel slip while she was changing. She later let glamour model Nicola Mclean rub suntan lotion into her back.

Both Nicola and former Blue singer Simon Webbe blasted camp newcomer Timmy in a conversation yesterday (22.11.08), both saying they couldn’t understand his constant laughing at Robert Kilroy Silk’s Bushtucker Trial on Friday.

Simon said: “It might have been a nervous laugh, because Robert went ‘don’t laugh’ so he carried on because - I mean - if that was me and someone tells me not to laugh, what would I do? He carried on laughing and laughing, and that’s when I thought ‘you’re playing a game mate.’ ”

Nicola, 25, said: “But when you speak to him, he genuinely seems a bit simple”

Simon countered: “I think he’s a kid in a man’s body - and there’s nothing wrong with that. But [he has a] different personality compared to us, which is why we look at him and go ‘you what’. “There are some people I’ve met, like, comedians who are really funny, and when I met them they’re total d**kheads. It’s hard to warm to him. [Timmy] got under my skin when he first came in.”

Earlier Nicola had attempted to get to know Timmy a little better, asking him about his life back in England and whether he always dresses in loud clothes.

Timmy, 53, said: “I like colour. I wear shorts quite a lot. I go into Maidenhead three miles away and people go ‘oh!’ [in recognition]. I’m used to it and its part of my job.”

When Timmy asked if she gets recognised, Nicola said: “Not a tremendous amount walking down the street. In a nightclub, or at the football - my market is all lads - so it all depends where I am.”

When asked if she was polite, she replied: “Sometimes yeah, sometimes not.”

Former tennis ace Martina, who is openly gay, chatted with politician Robert about her attraction to women.

Martina said: “If I’m in a relationship, which I usually am, I try to shut it out - but if I see a beautiful woman I’m like: ‘wow, she’s gorgeous’. ”

Robert also asked about the difficulties of being in a gay relationship and whether Martina suffered from people being prejudiced against her.

She replied: “I think I was pretty absorbed in it because of who I am. But friends of mine have encountered it, but its more sniggering or talking behind somebody’s back -the odd comment.

“Some girlfriends were in the closet so you had to pretend to parents… You have to heterosexualise your apartment. You move into two bedrooms, move the photos, hide the sweetest photos. “Whenever people do come out of the closet, they feel so liberated. They’re like ‘why didn’t I do this sooner?’ My message to all the gays is please come out. Come out, suffer the consequences but the upside is so much greater that any downside.”

Layla Manoochehri is flying out to the jungle and could be put in the camp with her boyfriend.

Former Misteeq singer Su-Elise Nash is believed to be the next contestant to enter the show. She is currently staying at a luxury hotel on Australia’s Gold Coast, 20 miles from the ‘I’m A Celebrity…’ camp. But Layla - who sings with former ‘The X Factor’ contestant group ‘Girlband’ – could also be in the running for a place with the celebrities.

In another twist Layla may be introduced, but not as a full time contestant. Show bosses are planning on running a mid-week surprise for the celebrities by offering one of them a chance to have private time with one of their loved ones. The other contestants in the show will have to vote on who wins the “booty call”.

Although Simon is seen as a ladies man, Layla says she’s not worried about him getting steamy with glamour model Nicola McLean or personal trainer Carly Zucker while in the jungle, as they both have boyfriends of their own.

Former Bucks Fizz star David, 51, was in tears before the trial, which saw him retrieve stars from the nooks and crannies of a network of tunnels and caves near the camp.

David – who is also afraid of the dark - had seven minutes to make his way through the tight, pitch black tunnels and dimly lit caves and pick up stars.

Directed by show hosts Ant and Dec, David plunged his hands into tubes full of rats and cane toads to retrieve two stars, and then scrabbled in dark caves and put his head under water filled with fish and eels to retrieve more.

He found five stars in total, earning the 12 celebrities five meals between them. After the trial he told Ant and Dec: “It was terrible. Absolutely the worst thing I’ve ever done in my life.”

On winning food for less than half of the camp he said: “I was hoping this was going to unite us but I’m not so sure now. There was some horrible stuff there.”

The other contestants later congratulated David on his efforts, with Timmy Mallett describing him as a “hero”.
