Two speakers from South Africa inspired a large audience with their talks about people living with HIV and Aids in African communities.

Masi Cower and Hope Tshenkeng, joined a number of Oxford speakers including Cecily’s Fund chairman Basil Eastwood and the Rt Revd John Pritchard, Bishop of Oxford, at the “Restoring Hope” conference on Saturday.

About 100 people attended the event, organised by ACHIVA – the Kidlington-based group Addressing the Challenge of HIV and Aids – at Oxford’s St Anne’s College.

ACHIVA chairman Kathryn Ellis, pictured with the Rt Revd Pritchard, has visited South Africa through Kidlington’s parish link with the township of Montshiwa.

She said: “The aim was to get people networking and talking about ways of working together.

“Masi was full of ideas of how contacts made at conference could be developed.”

Mr Eastwood set up Cecily’s Fund in memory of his daughter, who died in a road accident while doing a gap year.
