A young fashion designer has launched her range of clothes for ‘normal’ sized women in Oxford.

Ann-Kathrin Zieger, who lives in Iffley Road, started making clothes six years ago at the tender age of 15 when she found that she could not find clothes on the high street that fitted properly.

Soon she was making clothes for her friends and family who experienced the same problems, and now she has decided to start her own fashion range to reflect the very different sizes that women are.

She said: “I started to make clothes for people with hips and a backside, really tall and really small girls because I found that when I looked for stuff in the shops I couldn’t find good quality stuff that fitted well.

“My clothes come in a variety of shapes and sizes because I believe that fashion shouldn’t be restricted to only tall and skinny girls.

“Clothes should show the beauty of the individual model and if somebody isn’t happy in something, that alone can make them look bad.”

On Friday, 21-year-old Miss Zieger launched Cauliflower, at the former home of famous novelist Graham Greene, in Iffley village, using 20 models of all shapes and sizes plucked straight off the streets of Oxford.

The fashion show had a disco theme, with the models dancing and moving in the clothes as they would at a real party, an idea that Miss Zieger said she came up with to show that feeling good can make you look good too.

Miss Zeiger, who was born in Berlin, now plans to sell her work in the recently opened Puder Gallery, in Iffley Road.

She said: “I draw influence from the Berlin street life and street style.

“The clothes are a crazy combination of colour and extraordinary styles, which is a perfect symbol for what we want in the modern lifestyle.

“I want to make the most comfortable and stylish clothes for everybody, regardless of size or shape.

“This is the reason I personally invited all the people that modelled tonight.”

Sarah Laidlaw, from Summertown, was one the models picked by Miss Zieger.

Ms Laidlaw, who works at The Mitre pub, in High Street, said: “I am really quite petite and I do find it very hard to find clothes that fit.

“When Ann-Kathrin asked me if I wanted to model I was really surprised and excited about it as it is not something I would normally do.

”But I had so much fun.

“The clothes are really comfortable.”
