A mother whose four-year-old son has endured 12 operations and more than 700 medical appointments said she felt like a celebrity after winning an award.

Mother-of-two Hazel Scott, 34, from Wheatley, was named Most Inspirational Mother of the Year at Mother and Baby magazine’s 2008-9 awards, held in London.

Mrs Scott, a PR director for Footsteps, an Oxfordshire company which provides physiotherapy for children with conditions such as cerebral palsy and brain damage, said she felt very proud.

But she said the real stars of her family were sons Oscar, four, and Kyan, aged 10 months. She is pictured above with Oscar.

She said: “Oscar’s my inspiration. Everyone falls in love with Oscar.

“I was completely shocked to win the award. I’m sure there are so many other mothers more deserving.”

Oscar, who attends pre-school in Wheatley, has had 12 general anaesthetics during his short life.

He suffers from severe medical conditions affecting his heart, kidneys and brain, and requires daily physiotherapy.

Mrs Scott was nominated for the award by her friend Kathryn Hellewell, 34, from London, who said: “Hazel gives 150 per cent to Oscar.

“She’s relied upon by many friends and family members and always finds time for me and for them despite everything she has going on in her own life – she’s truly remarkable, an inspiration.”
