Firstly, an official apology that we're back at The Venue again so soon everyone – we did try for a different night elsewhere, but the club we wanted to review was completely empty.

We waited for what seemed like an eternity with fingers crossed, rubbing our prayer beads, hoping for someone with a pulse to arrive, but to no avail.

So, with our options severely limited, we decided to head to Dome at The Venue, Brookes – it was either that or you'd now be staring at 10 pictures of myself and Marc in subtly different poses. But what a great night we had at Dome! Allow me then, if you will, to set the scene.

Inside the enormous black cavern that is the club, you'll find a dazzling display of lasers flying over your head that first of all create amazement, then after a few drinks, obsession, and after a few more, confusion.

There are girls on stage dancing frenetically to anthems from the past, present and possibly future. Sounding good so far? I thought as much!

This place really goes all out to impress. After fighting your way to the bar and probably queuing for just long enough to make you slightly grumpy, you'll be cheered up again by low, low prices (no, this isn't a DFS advert) on pints of gnat-wee lager and bottles of luminous 'stuff' that’s all decanted into flimsy plastic cups.

People complain about plastic cups but it makes a ridiculous amount of sense if you think about it. Less hassle for the staff and no danger of them being used in an unorthodox way.

Dome really does have it all – cheap drinks, places to sit and drink where the music is slightly less deafening, and above all an enormous dancefloor packed with hundreds of people doing the normal thing that one does on a dancefloor.

Ah yes, the dancefloor – you really can get lost in the crowd and lose your inhibitions. I can draw comparisons here with upstairs at the Carling Academy in the Zodiac room on a Saturday night.

In both venues, the big dancefloors are like oceans of folks with their hands in the air, not really bothering to acknowledge that their personal space is being invaded from all sides!

The music is consistently good in both all night long, and that keeps the space in front of the DJ rammed and jumping until the bouncers have to drag people away at the end of the night and prod them in the direction of the exit.

Forget what I said a few weeks ago. Don't go to the night here by the name of Peachy. It's great if you love fancy dress, but it still pales in comparison to the popularity and pure energy of Dome on a Friday night.

It's absolutely worth a visit, so if you get a chance I urge you to give it a go. That's this venue done and dusted so we won't be back here for a long, long time.
