Police were out on patrol with passive drugs dogs in an operation to help crack down on the supply and use of illegal drugs.

The operation was carried out in a number of places including The Tandem pub in Kennington, The Stocks in Abingdon, and The Swan, The Cellar and The Arbery in Wantage.

Twelve searches were carried out during the operation and two arrests were made. A man, who had been at The Arbery pub, was arrested after he was seen acting suspiciously, on suspicion of possession of Class-A drugs.

Another man was arrested after a drugs scent had been detected at The Cellar in Wantage. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class-A drugs.

The licensees of the pubs welcomed the operation and stated it sent out a good message to the public that drugs will not be tolerated in local pubs and that both landlords and the police will continue the fight against it and stamp it out altogether.

Sgt Charlie Pollard, who led the operation, said: “This was not a one-off operation - the dogs were an excellent resource in the help to tackle drug crime and they will be used again in the future.”
