A woman found a burglar inside her home claiming to be a police officer.

The man was discovered in the living room of a house in Marlborough Place, Faringdon, at 5pm on Thursday.

He claimed he was a police officer, looking for evidence and that his colleague was searching her bedroom, but after they were challenged by the woman they both left the house empty handed.

The first man was white, around 6ft, slim and aged between 20 and 30 years old and was wearing a navy blue baseball cap and a dark coloured jacket.

The second man was said to be of a similar description to the first.

Dc Rob Underhill, investigating the incident, said: “I am appealing for information from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area at the time. The victim has been left very shaken by this incident. I would encourage anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or saw anything suspicious in the area to please get in touch.

“I would warn people, especially the elderly, to be aware of bogus callers. Always check for ID and if there is any doubt, do not let them into your house.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 08458 505505 or speak to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
