A pensioner has died after seemingly being knocked over accidentally by two women arguing in a city centre street.
Police believe the two women were arguing outside Bhs in Queen Street at about 1.40pm yesterday when one of them fell back into an 74-year-old woman, knocking her to the ground.
She suffered head injuries but they were not believed to be life-threatening.
Her family took her to the John Radcliffe Hospital after her condition worsened and she died overnight.
Det Chief Insp Colin Paine, leading the investigation, said: “The incident in the town has had tragic consequences with this elderly woman losing her life.
“I appeal to anyone who was in this area of Oxford and witnessed the incident to contact police immediately.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 08458 505505 or speak anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
A 35-year-old woman arrested in connection with the incident is currently in police custody.
