An area of Queen Street has been cordoned off by police tonight after a woman was found with serious head injuries.

The woman, who is described as being in her 70s, was found by police near BHS in Queen Street at about 1.45pm.

A police spokesman said the woman was obviously unwell and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Her condition deteriorated during the day and she is now in a serious condition.

It is not known how the woman was injured and so police cordoned off a section of Queen Street between the entrance of Westgate shopping centre and Mark’s & Spencer.

The spokesman said: “She was obviously unwell so she was taken to the John Radcliffe.

“Consequently we are now investigating the circumstances and at this time what happened is still being looked into.

“We are appealing for witnesses who may have seen an old lady outside BHS who was unwell or had sustained an injury.”

Anyone with information should contact Det Chf Insp Colin Paine at Oxford police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
