I write in reply to Mr Heavey’s letter about treatment of the county’s roads during the recent icy spell (November 14).

One benefit of global warming is that councils will no longer have to put down salt on our roads. So we can save that expense.

Let’s face it, this was one night of frost.

I remember a time when drivers took the road conditions at face value, and drove accordingly – usually very slowly. If drivers crash due to the local conditions, then, I’m afraid, it’s bad driving.

On a different subject, regarding that Australian bagpiper, let’s get him back to Oz as quickly as possible.

There must be people of Scottish extraction who will appreciate his music. If only the fellow played English music (perhaps some Morris tunes), then we locals might have liked it.
