oads of south Oxfordshire at the weekend when men in thongs pulled a monster truck more than 16 miles to raise money for charity.

On Saturday, Didcot-based fundraisers The Thong Rangers pulled the three tonne truck from Didcot to Abingdon — and back again.

Thong ranger Philip Middleton, 42, of Barnes Road, Didcot, said: “It went really well – everybody did really well on the day and the weather was nice for us.

“The last mile at the edge of Didcot was difficult as we were all really tired and looking forward to finishing.”

Mr Middleton added: “We had loads of support from the public – it was really good.”

It took the eight men just six hours and 15 minutes, which included refreshment breaks, to complete the circuit.

They collected more than £2,000 from spectators as they pulled the truck.

Wantage MP Ed Vaizey and Didcot mayor Tony Harbour added their support for the cause by joining the team for a mile of the pull. Both declined to don a thong.

The final amount raised for Against Breast Cancer and local children will be counted up as sponsorship money comes in.
