Mothers and fathers marched through Oxford to encourage more people to “wear” their babies in a sling.

On Sunday, 30 parents gathered at Radcliffe Square with their babies to demonstrate the benefits of using a sling to carry youngsters.

They then marched around the University Parks before rounding off the event with tea and cakes.

The event was organised by Oxford Sling Meet.

Member Joanne Bowlt, 39, of Summertown, joined in with 10-month-old baby Benjamin Nicholson.

She said: “The main point was to celebrate International Baby Wearing Week and it was the culmination of many different events.”

Ms Bowlt said it was important more parents were made aware of baby wearing. She said: “There are lots of different reasons to wear your baby — it’s an ancient art many other cultures still practice and it’s becoming more popular in our culture.”

Members of Oxford Sling Meet get together once a month in the city.
