Kevin Wilkins took the men’s crown for the first time and also landed the doubles title at the Summer League finals night in front of a large crowd at Rover Social Club.

Wilkins saw off his Shears (Wantage) teammate Preben Krabben, the Winter League singles champion, 2-0 in one of the best quality finals for several years.

The ladies’ singles final also brought two teammates together, with Paulette Guy and Kim Ledbury from Shelley Arms doing battle - Guy in her third singles final and Ledbury in her first.

The match was tied at 1-1 and in an exciting final leg, Guy got the vital double eight to land her second crown after Ledbury had missed attempts at doubles.

The men’s summer pairs final saw Wilkins and Pete Hall (Shears) defeat Ray Pape and Terry Wood (Shelley Arms) 2-0.

Sam Merrifield and Sue Poyser (Quarry Gate) took the ladies’ pairs title with victory over defending champions Pat Newman and Denise Pape (Shelley Arms).

The men’s seven-a-side final between Railway A and the Shears produced some cracking darts.

Roger Haines and Ronnie Anderson gave Railway a 2-0 lead before Pete Hall defeated Barry Stratford to reduce the arrears.

Railway went 3-1 up when Nigel Russell got the better of Kevin Barefoot, only for Shears to narrow the gap with a splendid win from Kevin Wilkins over Steve Foster.

With Railway needing one win to secure the cup, Ollie Varney saw off Mark Ord 2-0 with out-shots of 106 and 146 (60, 54, 32) to clinch victory.

The ladies’ seven-a-side cup saw Shelley Arms D take a 3-0 lead over Quarry Gate C with wins from Angie Pointin, Michelle Ewins and Tina Hamilton before Quarry pulled one back when Sue Poyser beat Carol Harwood.

Natalie Creed’s win over Greta Britnell wrapped up a 4-1 triumph.
