A father who walked into a police station and told officers a woman’s body was at his Banbury home today admitted killing his wife.

Mohammed Rashid, 35, admitted killing Sughra Rani, 30, in September at their home in Mold Crescent.

He is due to be sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on December 5.

Andrew Smith, defending the father-of-two, told the court today Rashid had been seen by a psychiatrist, but no medical evidence would be put forward in mitigation.

At an earlier hearing, Banbury Magistrates’ Court heard Rashid had killed Mrs Rani in a “frenzied attack” — stabbing her 16 times. She had wounds to her back and chest as well as multiple skull fractures, described as ‘chopping-style’ wounds.

The court heard that it was likely a heavy, blunt instrument had been used in the attack.

Magistrates were told the attack was triggered after Rashid discovered his wife was allegedly having an affair with a Kurdish man.

At the time Rashid was refused bail because it was feared he would abscond or commit further offences.

Rashid and his wife both came to the UK about 12 years ago in an arranged marriage.
