The publicity department at Morris Motors at Cowley didn't have to look far when it wanted attractive young women to help sell the firm's cars.

Sybil Sheppard and Brenda Webb worked as secretaries for the company and had all the right characteristics to appear in promotional pictures.

On one occasion in the early 1950s, they were photographed with an MG TD car in the Chilterns, at White Mark Hill, near Watlington.

Now, more than 50 years later, that iconic picture has been recreated.

The photoshoot was arranged after the original picture was shown to Keith Lee, a former Pressed Steel employee, who knew both Sybil, now Sybil Cook, of Garsington, and Oxford businessman and MG enthusiast John Venables.

They agreed it would be a good idea to restage the picture at the exact spot, using Mr Venables's TF car.

John Blake, a former director of Nuffield Press and a keen amateur photographer, was recruited to take the pictures.

Mr Venables writes: “Sadly, we have been unable to locate Brenda Webb, so she has become a not-so-good-looking male (me!) in the new photograph.

“Sybil is still a very elegant lady as can be seen, and really entered into the spirit of the event.

“She enjoyed a 12-mile ride home in the TF with me after the shoot. I find it interesting that Morris Motors and MG used their secretaries as models, who look like real people, rather than the modern day trend of the half-dressed girls covered in make-up, who are used by car manufacturers today.”

Does anyone know the whereabouts of Brenda Webb? If so, another photoshoot could be arranged!
