Eleven-year-old Michael Selwood is an old hand at television and drama productions — but has just landed his biggest part yet.

He is fronting a 12-week series on television’s Disney Channel called Oscar and Michael’s Phineas and Ferb Fan Club Show, presenting the show and helping other youngsters with any problems they might come up with.

Michael, from Benson, is a former pupil of Benson primary school and is now in his first year at Wallingford School.

He beat hundreds of other youngsters in auditions for the prized part.

In the past he has been in the Channel 4 Margaret Thatcher drama, has done several short films, been on stage in London in Hecuba and played in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

He lives in Benson with his parents Heather and Chuck and his 16-year-old brother Dominic.

It was while listening to Dominic practising the flute in music lessons in Wallingford that he saw the Thames Valley Drama School when he was six and he’s been treading the boards ever since.

Of the Disney programme, he said: “I was really excited when I was picked. The show is running for 12 weeks and goes out on the Disney Channel on Mondays at 10am.

“It’s lots of fun — the whole thing has been pre-recorded.”

He said he had been a fan of the Phineas and Ferb animated series ever since it was first shown on the Disney Channel.

So, with his co-presenter Oscar Lloyd, he sets out like his animated heroes to solve problems and each episode brings a new adventure for the boredom fighters. Their slogan is: “You can do anything when you think big”.

Jonathan Beasley, in charge of programming for the channel in this country, said: “Through Oscar and Michael’s love for the show, we’re encouraging children across the UK to tap into their imaginations to think big and have fun.”

The Phineas and Ferb Fan Club Show, launched in February, topped the ratings charts for youngsters aged between six and 12.
