The chance to shape Wallingford's future and make it into a vital and vibrant community is being given to local people at a special meeting called by South Oxfordshire District Council.

The meeting at Wallingford School next Monday is open to everyone and its aim is to help shape the town's economic future, boosting local businesses and attracting new ones.

It follows the successful launch of the district council's Shaping South Oxfordshire Market Towns strategy last month, which looked at what people considered thriving market towns to be and what was needed to make them stay that way.

Monday’s follow-up ‘workshop’ aims both to find a long-term approach to the economic development of Wallingford and to help the district council create an overall plan for the town.

Rodney Mann, the council’s cabinet member for economic development, said: "The launch was a great success and now we need to build on it. I urge local people to come along to this workshop and help us create a plan for securing the future vitality of the town.

"Like most market towns across the country, Wallingford faces challenges, and so, by involving local people in developing a vision for the future, we aim to lead the way in creating a thriving market town centre."

The workshop will run between 4.45pm and 8pm and the district council hopes local employers and employees will get involved as well as local residents.
