Colourful outfits, sparkling jewellery and sweet treats were the order of the day for a special celebration in Oxford to mark the Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The event, held today at the Regal Community Centre, in Ridgefield Road, Cowley, was the first such celebration organised by the Oxfordshire Bangladeshi Association. It marked the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, when Muslims do not eat or drink from dawn until dusk.
Among those attending was Najiha Miah, 10, front, pictured with family and friends.
An estimated 150 people attended the event, which doubled up as a celebration for GCSE pupils at the Iqra School, in Littlemore, who received their certificates from the Lord Mayor of Oxford, Susanna Pressel.
