People in Wallingford, Thame and Henley are being given the chance to have a say on the future of their towns.

South Oxfordshire District Council wants residents to help shape the future of the market towns over the next three years.

The council is organising three workshops where people can discuss ideas.

The aim is to agree a vision for each town's future, identify things needing to be done to achieve that, and detail who should be doing the work.

The scheme was launched at the Northmoor Trust's Hill Farm headquarters at Little Wittenham on Tuesday with a speaker from the Northumberland Strategic Partnership, which has done successful similar work with its market towns.

That will be followed by a series of workshops at Lord Williams's School, in Thame, on Monday, November 3, Wallingford School on Monday, November 10, and Henley Rugby Club on Monday, November 17, running between 4.45pm and 8pm.

Rodney Mann, the district council's cabinet member for economic development, said: "I am encouraging people to come along to these events and help us create a plan for securing the future vitality of our market towns.

"Wallingford, Henley and Thame all face challenges, as do market towns across the country.

"By involving local people in developing a vision for the future, we aim to lead the way on reversing the economic decline in our town centres."
