About 10 minutes later, one of the men was hit by a car on the junction of Blackbird Leys Road and Cuddesdon Way. The vehicle failed to stop.

The man, in his 20s, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital where he is in a serious condition.

Det Insp Simon Morton said: "We believe it is the same men involved in both incidents.

"A green car collided with a man, aged in his 20s, and then left the scene. I appeal to anyone who saw any of these incidents take place to contact police immediately.

"We are stepping up patrols in the area today and we would like to reassure residents that we are doing everything we can to identify the person responsible.

"The man who was injured during the incident is currently in the JR in a serious but stable condition."
