Sir — Oxfordshire County Council are to be congratulated on the new traffic and pedestrian scheme which is nearing completion in Summertown. In particular the new, wider paving gives a light and spacious feel to the shopping area for pedestrians.

However it also means that there is even more opportunity for cyclists to break the law by cycling on the pavement and indeed, creating a Tour de Summertown.

Of course being "low priority" this is not seen by the police as needing more than spasmodic attention.

At some point there will be an accident involving an elderly pedestrian with possibly serious consequences. It would be better to take preventative action now.
