Sir — So our rubbish supremo John Tanner, who is patently failing to make Oxford a cleaner city, has had another bright idea give everyone another bin to clutter up the smelly streets.

He is floating the idea of a special bin for food waste to be collected fortnightly, adding to the public health risk. But, he says he is going to ask the public for an opinion.

May I suggest that instead of obstinately defying the majority of public opinion for a return to weekly rubbish collections, he asks the public the following questions:

1: Would you prefer a weekly rubbish collection at no extra cost?

2: Would you prefer to stay with the present fortnightly collection?

3: Would you prefer to have another bin for food waste to be collected fortnightly?

These are straight yes/no options. He won't do it because he knows that the overwhelming response would be a vote for weekly collections. So he will continue to defy public opinion.
