The project to redevelop Wallingford Youth Centre is back on the drawing board.

And Wallingford Town Council members are urging that the whole Clapcot Way site should be devoted to youth activities.

Oxfordshire County Council's original plans to knock down the dilapidated buildings, build a two-storey youth centre and fund it with housing on the site was opposed by both the town council and South Oxfordshire District Council.

The county council's principal projects officer, Peter Taylor, said: "Following public consultation on the youth centre application, a number of issues have been raised with the planning officer dealing with the application.

"An application will be resubmitted."

Town and county council member Lynda Atkins said: "Significant changes are expected to be made."

The revised application will be discussed at county council level on Monday, November 24.

Town and district council member Imran Lokhon said: "We do not want to lose any youth club facilities — indeed, they should be enhanced. I would like to see the whole site occupied by the youth club."
