Firefighters in breathing apparatus were called to an Oxfordshire swimming pool last night to deal with chemicals that had reacted violently.
Crews from Abingdon and Wallingford, plus an environmental protection unit from Rewley Road, Oxford, were called to the private pool in Dorchester, south Oxfordshire, at 7.40pm.
A fire service spokesman said of the incident in Oxford Road: "Half a litre of calcium hypochlorite had been diluted in five litres of water and was gassing off.
"Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were committed to investigate following discussions with hazardous-materials officers.
"The decision was taken to dilute the solution further in the swimming pool."
No one was injured in the incident.
