Sir — Recently I went to look at the new development adjoining the new Marston British Legion clubhouse in Hadow Road.

The club itself is a smart new building some 50 yards from its previous site. Between it and the top of Lynn Close is a terrace of five town houses, four of which are still empty.

I was surprised to find that a wooden fence has been erected between Lynn Close and the RBL car park. At age 80, I was just able to climb over it; but a friend who lives in Lynn Close says that an elderly gent he knows frequently goes by car from Lynn Close to the club, some 600 yards, when his home is only about 100 yards away as the crow flies! What a waste of petrol!

Why didn't planners tell the builders to construct a few steps and a gate from the pat at the top of Lynn Close to the club car park? In another new development nearby, some houses are accessed from Lynn Close and others from Jack Straw's Lane. There is no footpath between the two parts of the estate. This seems to me officially imposed apartheid.

What do the residents there think?
