Discount store operators Lidl were due today to set out their new case for coming to Witney.

The company was holding an open day at the town's Langdale Hall to show its revised planning application for a store on land at Ducklington Lane.

Its first scheme was rejected by West Oxfordshire District Council planners in late July on design and highways grounds.

A company spokesman said: "We have been looking to build a store in Witney as part of our ongoing expansion programme throughout the UK.

"The event is to allow traders and residents the opportunity to discuss any aspect of the proposed development."

The German-based company has more than 450 stores throughout Europe. Today's open day runs from noon to 5pm.
