There is every reason it will work as it does in London and other cities.
If there aren't enough cars on any particular day, the scheme will obtain another one.
Your scenario of the distant sick relative is just the occasion when it will be ideal.
Your 'How it works' box and editorial are about car sharing, which is not the same as a car club.
Car sharing involves offering lifts, while car club members book exclusive use of a car for a set time.
