The daughter of William Stone, the 107-year-old Second World War veteran from Watlington, has this morning said he is responding to treatment in hospital.
Anne Davidson said her father was in good spirits at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading after he was taken ill at his nursing home in Sindlesham, Berkshire, over the weekend.
She said: "Last week he had a couple of falls and he has now got an infection. It is right to say he is in a stable and improving condition, and he is responding to treatment."
Mr Stone, who fought in both world wars, had lived in Orchard Walk, Watlington, until breaking his hip last year.
