Alas I was away in sunny Cornwall on Tuesday night when the group read a play called Vinegar Tom. At last night's Committee meeting much discussion took place with the general feeling that we should do the play if it can be cast. This is an ever recurring problem with small groups. Big cast plays leave few bodies to help backstage and small cast plays usually mean big parts. Not all members want that kind of commitment of course. However the debate continues and another epic is to be read on Tuesday. Someone is lending me a copy of Vinegar Tom to read so I will keep readers informed.
Well last night's meeting was most enjoyable mainly because of Joan's mince pies and mulled wine a feature that should be a fixture of any future meeting I reckon.
Our Christmas drinks and nibbles night next week is looming fast, and the annual dinner has been finalised in January. At this grand event the Member of the Year Award is made. Now this makes the evening at the Oscars seem very tame. Witty speeches revelry and general mayhem are three things that don't happen but we are working on it. I jest of course, it is an evening of gourmet delights and partying enjoyed by all participants. In the words of Terry Wogan "Show me a man with his feet firmly on the ground and I'll show you a man who can't get his trousers on." Very true.
A theatre visit is also planned for early spring. We have had several of these in recent years where we all meet in the theatre bar, watch the show and then go for a meal. An excellent way to spend an evening.
