I've been training the new Assistant Manager at the New Theatre & OFS Studio this past couple of weeks. Which means I have been trying to think every problem I came across when being the duty manager at the New Theatre to try and prevent her from having any unexpected traumas!

The one thing I can guarantee is that no matter how much I try and warn her about all the things to look out for, there is always the Curse of the Assistant Manager. Floods, nose-diving pigeons winging their way into the theatre (with us waving towels at it to get it back out again), drunken couples fighting each other and/or shouting at you, people being sick, cast of a sold out show being stuck in traffic trying to get to the theatre on time, it always seems to happen on our shifts! Which I try to see in a positive light, because it all teaches us how to react in a million different situations calmly. And who else can say that they never get bored at work?

So when an actor accidentally ended up flooding his dressing room at the OFS, standing there mopping up bucketfuls of water was just another regular moment in the life of a deputy theatre manager.
