Oxfordshire village hit by 'significant' rat problem

Food waste is reportedly being left out in public bins around Benson, near Wallingford, much to the delight of rodents.

Binmen who are collecting the previous day's waste and rubbish from the bins in the morning are spotting more of the rats scurrying around.

In a notice to villagers, Benson Parish Council said: "Please help us by not placing household food waste in the public village bins.

"This is causing a significant rat problem, with rats regularly seen emerging from the bins when they are emptied in the mornings.

"The public bins are intended for small amounts of litter while out and about, not for the disposal of household waste.

"Please use your household food waste collection service instead. Your support in tackling this issue is greatly appreciated."
