Married magician duo bring magic show to Banbury stage

Alan and Kat Hudson, who perform as Hudson & Hudson, will take to the stage at The Mill Arts Centre on Friday, September 25, with their show Married at First Sleight.

The show blends illusions and mind-reading with stand-up, sketches, and unscripted comedy drawn from their real-life relationship.

Alan Hudson said: "We obviously have funny lines that we’ve developed, but we go off script all the time.

"Kat especially can’t help bringing our personal lives into it.

"She knows she’s got my full attention if she mentions something during the show."

The couple’s differing outlooks are central to the act, with much of the humour drawn from their life together both on and off stage.

When asked about the best part of working with her husband, Kat said: "We travel together, work together and get to spend 24 hours a day together."

According to Alan, that can also be the worst part.

Both magicians had established solo careers before teaming up as a double act, and both have appeared separately on Britain’s Got Talent.

Alan also fooled Penn and Teller on Penn & Teller: Fool Us and has featured on ITV’s The Next Great Magician.

He is a member of the Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star.

Kat has appeared on Italian talent show Tu Si Que Vales and performed in the West End magic show Wonderville.

Their TV experience has prepared them for the unpredictability of live audience interaction.

Kat said: "Always be two steps ahead, especially when it’s live.

"We have audience participation and you never know what a person is going to say or do.

"If you do get called up, you’ll absolutely love it.

"You lot certainly keep us on our toes, and we love it."

Despite their individual successes, forming a double act wasn’t always on the cards.

Alan said: "At that point we didn’t have a double act.

"I remember Ant and Dec asking if we would perform together and we both said no.

"Dec said that was probably a good idea because one of you always ends up doing a lot of the heavy lifting."

The show promises a mix of magical highlights.

Alan said: "For me, there are so many highlights.

"The bullet catch is incredible, the finale is amazing and you don’t see it coming.

"And we have this incredible bit with a dictionary that is mind-blowing."

Kat added: "You’ll laugh, be amazed and have the most wonderful time.

"You’ll leave feeling like you’re part of the Hudson family."

Married at First Sleight begins at 7.30pm and runs for approximately one hour and 40 minutes.
