A by-election to replace an Oxfordshire representative who resigned his post to leave the UK is set to take place tomorrow.
On Thursday, September 3, the polls will open to elect a new county councillor for Chesterton and Lauton from 7am to 10pm.
This follows the July resignation of Lib Dem councillor Will Boucher-Giles, who stepped down from his role after less than a year and a half "due to a family move to Switzerland".
Mr Boucher-Giles, a caterer and chef, had been elected to the authority in May 2025 in what will likely be the last full set of elections for the council, which is set to be abolished in 2028 under local government reorganisation.

When the councillor resigned, it cost his Lib Dem group its majority at the authority.
Tomorrow, the five main UK parties will be fielding candidates:
- Sandy Lewis Dallimore for The Conservative Party
- Gregory Michael Fish for the Labour Party
- James Henry Dean Hartley for the Liberal Democrats
- Ian Richard Hogson for Reform UK
- Meri Mosharrafa for the Green Party

People voting in person at polling stations tomorrow will need to bring a valid form of photo ID, which can include a passport, driving licence, a PASS card, a biometric immigration document, or a concessionary bus pass - a full list of ID proofs is available on the Government website.
Cherwell District Council is administering the by-election, and those registered to vote will have been allocated a polling station.
