A man has told a jury how a driver was ‘trying to kill him’ when a vehicle smashed into him on an Oxford street.
Rabar Pirot was walking along St Clement’s Street with a group when he was allegedly run down by motorist, Romario Qatja.
Mr Pirot told the court the vehicle was used ‘as a weapon’ as his head smashed into the windscreen and he said his leg was broken by the impact.
He told Oxford Crown Court how the vehicle was stopped before the driver reversed to try and run him over.
Mr Pirot said: “It drove very fast towards us. There was a lot of pain. I could see my leg was broken.
“One of my friends pulled me out by the jacket. It was clear he was heading towards me.
"He was trying to kill me."
The incident took place after reports of a mass-brawl breaking out outside Hank’s Bar in Queen Street in the early hours of the same day.
A trial was previously told how Mr Pirot had been in Oxford on September 13, 2025, to meet with friends including a ‘friend of a friend’, Alan Mohammadi.
Mr Mohammadi was allegedly involved in the altercation with a group of Albanians.
He was one of several people alongside Mr Pirot when he was knocked down later that day.
Qatka, 31, of Pipkin Way, Oxford is among eight men facing trial after the series of incidents last year.
He is charged with multiple offences including causing serious injury by dangerous driving, affray and wounding with intent.
He previously pleaded not guilty to the offences as well as the attempted murder of Mr Pirot relating to the alleged car attack.
The jury also heard from Shapol Mohammed who was also at the scene when the incident on St Clement’s Street took place.
He told the court: "We were walking on the pavement. I asked Alan (Mohammadi) why he was assaulted before.
"All of a sudden, I saw a vehicle very quickly travel towards me. Alan said 'that's Mario'.
"I said 'who's Mario'? He said he was from the group who attacked him the last night.
"I was able to quickly move out of the way, but Alan was struck in the leg and so was Rabar (Pirot)."
He added: "The car went into reverse and came towards us with the intention of running over Rabar.
"We pulled Rabar away to stop him from being run over.”
When asked if the group tried to stop the car, Mr Mohammed said: "There were many people there who threw things at the vehicle."
Other men are on trial accused of being spotted with weapons, including a 'sword and a piece of wood' on the same day as both incidents.
Samyan Khdir, 21, of Poplar High Street, London, is charged with having an offensive weapon, namely a sword, in Rectory Road.
Eyub Hussani, 25, of Warley Avenue, Dagenham, is charged with having an offensive weapon, namely a long piece of wood, in the same location.
Gabriel Dos Santos, 28, of Richmond Road, Oxford; Arger Poleshi, 20, of no fixed abode; and Armanto Tzourtzi, 24, of no fixed abode, are charged with affray.
Indrit Ndoj, 35, of St Martins Road, Oxford, and Fiqiri Noka, 27, of Mogridge Drive, Oxford, are also charged with affray.
Tzourtzi, Poleshi, Noka, Ndoj and Dos Santos pleaded not guilty to affray.
Khdir and Hussani pleaded not guilty to being in possession of an offensive weapon.
The trial at Oxford Crown Court continues.
