A community has rallied around after residents were forced from their homes due to a huge fire in Oxfordshire.

Families were given temporary emergency accommodation after a massive blaze at the Oaks caravan park near Kingston Bagpuize on Sunday.

Dozens of people were forced from their homes after the accidental fire which is believed to have been started with a barbecue.

Now a community has rallied around those impacted after 125 firefighters were called in to bring the flames under control.

One social media user, Julia Boyce said: "No casualties I believe. Thank God!

Angie Gregory said: "Hope all was sorted"

Support was provided by the nearby cricket club, but people were not allowed back to their caravans during the night with it not known when people can return.

Damaged caused to the electricity system rendered the park unsafe and specialist engineers are on-scene trying to fix the problem.

Bev Burns said: "I live there, no one is hurt thankfully. We are all with the police now seeing what happens next."

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “Following a fire that officers supported the Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service with at Oaks Caravan Park in Abingdon yesterday evening (12/7), we are continuing work with them and are in the process of allowing some residents to return to their caravans where it is deemed there is no risk.

“Road have now re-opened following closures on Faringdon Road, the A415 Kingston Road, A338 and Digging Lane.”

Lynden Sommerfield said: 'Hope no one is seriously hurt."

Freya Connell-Warne: "My father and I saw it and it was at the Caravan park at Kingston Bagpuize. It was the largest fire I've ever seen in my life and I hope everyone made it out safely."
