A new research programme will focus on improving the health outcomes of Black communities.
Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust has begun the Improving Black Health Outcomes (IBHO) Bioresource, which studies the unique impacts of health conditions on UK Black communities.
The Trust said that Black communities are currently underrepresented in genetic research, which limits the understanding of their health conditions and reduces the effectiveness of treatments.
Over 6,000 volunteers have already consented to take part and the study is still accepting volunteers.

Individuals aged 16+ from Black ethnic backgrounds and people with Sickle Cell or Thalassaemia, regardless of ethnicity, can take part in the study.
The IBHO Bioresource is part of the National Institute for Health and Care Research Bioresource and is being delivered by the Trust’s Mental Health Research Delivery Team.
