A Hollywood actress has revealed a "cheeky moment" with King Charles III.

The royal has overseen Highgrove in the Cotswolds since 1980, transforming it with extensive, carefully designed gardens.

Vanessa Williams recalled the exchange in an interview with Hello!, as she reflected on meeting the King during the Royal Variety Show.

The Devil Wears Prada and Ugly Betty star said she had been taking part in a magic trick with Penn and Teller when the moment happened.

Ms Williams said: "When I did the Royal Variety Show, I did a quick magic trick with Penn and Teller, and I had to open up a padlock, and I had a little trouble getting it open, so he mentioned: ‘You had a little trouble getting that lock open,’ but that was the only cheeky thing that was said."

The 65-year-old has been building a life in Britain through her West End role as Miranda Priestly, and her latest comments suggest her affection for the country also extends to the Royal Family.

She told Hello! that her fascination with the royals stretches back decades, recalling how she watched the wedding of Charles and Diana as a teenager in the United States.

Ms Williams added: "I watched Diana’s wedding to King Charles - I was in high school at the time - we all got up at four in the morning to watch it live, so the fact that I got to follow in her footsteps, shake royalty’s hands, is a dream come true.

"I was at Royal Ascot last week, it was just incredible, I saw the King arrive."
