According to Matthew Barber, Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner, most people are supportive of a change to Wantage town centre.
But in an unofficial survey done by him over 80 per cent of residents reject the current proposals put forward by Oxfordshire County Council.
The plans include banning vehicles except buses, taxis, delivery vehicles and emergency vehicles, with goods vehicles having to load between midnight and 9am Monday to Sunday.

Proposals also include relocating bus stops and taxi ranks and introducing a right turn-only from the servicing route.
Mr Barber said only one person he spoke to thought the changes proposed were a really good idea.
Concerns have been raised about the loss of parking, particularly disabled parking.
The impact on local businesses is also highlighted as a key concern, as the proposals will make it harder to get into town and really difficult for them to get their deliveries.
A survey on the proposals will is due to close at 11.59pm on Wednesday, July 8.

Oxfordshire County Council describe the proposals as a way to 'enhance public space while protecting the town's history and character'.
Wantage Town Council have welcomed the commitment to change in the area but describe the current proposals as a "radical approach to delivering this".
The county council's member for transport has previously said that the plans are not final but that the local authority wants to make Wantage Market Place a better area to spend time for shopping, leisure or business.
Gareth Epps said: ""We are working hard to make sure the final designs are not only practical but also accessible for everyone.”
