Magdalen College School’s summer theatrical production of Sherlock Holmes and the Napoleon of Crime at the Oxford Playhouse has begun.
The musical, staged in production with the Playhouse, had its dress rehearsal on Thursday, June 25 in front of Oxford primary school children, ahead of a four-performance run playing to parents and the public.
Featuring an original script and score by Magdalen College School's head of drama Alex Thomas, who also directed, the play featured a large cast of young actors.
The pupils took on around 50 different parts in order to bring together a plot including characters from several popular Conan Doyle short stories, including Dr Watson, Professor Moriarty, and the titular detective himself.

The piece incorporates original songs, dance routines and stage combat, all accompanied by a live pit orchestra, and culminates in a chase sequence involving bicycles, hansom cabs and a steamboat race down the Thames.
Mr Thomas said: “We’ve had immense fun rehearsing this show, which is a real ensemble piece.”
He paid tribute to the pupils, adding: “Each actor has worked really hard to develop a distinct voice within the narrative.
"Their commitment, combined with the skill of the crew and talent of the band, really brought the shadows and secrets of Victorian London to life.
"We’re excited to share it with audiences in the coming performances.”
Sherlock Holmes and the Napoleon of Crime will finish on Saturday, June 27 at the Oxford Playhouse.
