An retired factory worker died after an accidental fall at an Oxford hospital.

An inquest into the death of Susan Trafford, a retired coil winder, was led by area coroner Nicholas Graham at Oxfordshire Coroners' Court yesterday (Thursday, June 11).

The 71-year-old, who lived in Oxford with her retired mechanic husband Gary, was suffering from progressively worsening Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and interstitial lung disease when she was admitted to the John Radcliffe hospital on January 19, 2026.

On January 20, she suffered an unwitnessed, accidental fall on the ward after using a bedside commode, sustaining a fractured right neck femur.

She underwent surgical repair on January 22, but her health deteriorated and she died at the hospital on February 14.

Mr Graham recorded a narrative conclusion, stating that her main cause of death was COPD and interstitial lung disease, with her fracture, chronic kidney disease, atrial fibrillation and rheumatoid arthritis recorded as contributory conditions.
