A trial date has been set for a young man accused of raping a 16-year-old.

Biniam Ariaya, of Druce Way, Oxford, appeared at Oxford Crown Court on June 12.

The 23-year-old is charged with one count of rape, alleged to have been committed in Banbury on May 8 this year.

The court heard that Ariaya wouldn't be arraigned yet, so he is yet to enter a plea. However a provisional trial date was set for October 26.

He is set to be arraigned on August 17.

The defendant was assisted by a Tigrinyan interpreter during the hearing.

Tigrinya is a language primarily spoken in Eritrea and the Tigray region of Ethiopia.

Judge Michael Roques told the defendant: "The prosecution haven't decided what the final charges in your case are going to be."
