Volkswagen on fire in Banbury close to M40 motorway

A car burst onto flames close to the M40.

Fire erupted from under the bonnet of a Volkswagen Passat estate on the Hennef Way in Banbury on Thursday afternoon, May 28.

It's understood the male driver managed to escape the car along with his belongings before the fire enveloped the rest of the car.

The fire brigade had been called and the car is understood to be in the process of being removed just before 3pm.

Traffic was also stopped by police while the car was extinguished.

Oxfordshire fire service's spokesman said: "Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 1.28pm, sending a fire engine from Banbury and one from Hook Norton fire station to Hennef Way in Banbury

"Crews extinguished a single vehicle car fire using a hosereel jet. They departed at 2.11pm."
