Two young men chased two teenagers into a Londis shop, brandishing a baseball bat and a shovel, a court heard.
Faras Mohammed and Ismaeel Nasib were sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Tuesday, April 21.
Mohammed, 21, of Marston, and Nasib, 18, of Iffley, pleaded guilty to one count of affray and one count of being in possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
The offences took place at a Londis off Marston Road on October 1 last year.
Leandra Smith, prosecuting, told the court that Nasib had been threatened by a teenager with a large knife earlier that day and had gone to Mohammed's house for help.

The pair drove to Londis where they saw the two teenagers and chased them into the shop.
Items fell off the shop shelves during the incident.
One teenager pulled a knife out during the incident, when Mohammed was holding a metal bat and Nasib a shovel.
They subsequently left the shop.
The court was then shown CCTV which captured some of the incident.
Mohammed and Nasib could be seen chasing the teenagers into the shop and holding the weapons. One of the teenagers, inside the shop, could be seen brandishing a very large knife. Neither party was injured.
Ms Smith told the court that both Mohammed and Nasib were arrested and admitted to the offences.
Neither has any previous convictions.
Ms Smith said: "The incident was in front of members of the public. Serious alarm and distress would have been caused. Mr Nasib was 17 at the time of the incident."
Kelly Purcell-Chandler, mitigating for Mohammed, said: "He is of good character and still of young age. He made admissions straight away. It was a huge mistake.
"He was at home and Mr Nasib was panicking and he wanted to support him. He should have driven away and he is remorseful.
"It was from a place of protection. This really was just a blip. He is a low risk of reoffending. He has strong personal mitigation."
Gareth James, mitigation for Nasib, said: "He pleaded guilty at the first opportunity. This happened three days before his 18th birthday.
"He accepts he lost his temper and wasn't thinking rationally."
The Judge, Recorder Francesca Del Mese, said: "This was a significant breakdown in law and order. It's reasonable to assume members of the public were terrified."
Mohammed was given a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.
He was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work in 12 months and he was banned from the Londis for 12 months.
He must also pay £1,000 in compensation.
Nasib was handed an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.
He must complete 130 hours of unpaid work in 12 months and was also banned from Londis for 12 months.
He was ordered to pay £400 in compensation.
Orders were also made for the forfeiture of the weapons.
