Police have issued a warning after a 'series of burglaries' have been committed in the Chipping Norton area, with the latest seeing a home ransacked.

Thames Valley Police said burglars are targeting homes and "looking to steal cash and jewellery and will often search for a safe" if they gain access to a property.

It comes after the most recent incident took place in Shipton-under-Wychwood on Thursday evening, February 19, when burglars broke into a home on the High Street at about 8pm.

Shipton-under-Wychwood is a village in the Evenlode valley about four miles north of Burford close to Chipping Norton.

Police are investigating and asking for anyone with information on the crime to come forward by calling 101 or making a report online, quoting reference number 43260085227.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson for the force said: "This incident is a reminder for everyone to stay vigilant and take steps to secure your homes.

"Ensure that all doors and windows are locked. Install motion-sensor lights, visible CCTV cameras, and a monitored alarm.

"Avoid leaving valuables in plain sight and be cautious about sharing travel plans on social media.

"Report suspicious activity immediately on 999."

Further information for homeowners on how to prevent burglaries and protect their homes from thieves is available on the Thames Valley Police website.
