ITV will air its much-anticipated Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover this evening, January 5.

Corriedale is a crossover between the two ITV soaps, bringing characters from both shows face-to-face.

A synopsis for the show reads: "Two worlds collide as the residents of Coronation Street and Emmerdale are involved in a catastrophic multiple vehicle collision."

But some viewers hoping to wake up this morning and watch the crossover will have to wait until this evening.

8 Most Iconic British Soap Characters of All Time

Is Corriedale on ITVX already?

Unlike normal, the crossover will not be released early on ITVX , instead airing at 8pm for everyone.

It comes after two half-hour episodes of each soap, with Emmerdale on at 7 pm and Coronation Street at 7.30 pm.

The individual episodes are available to watch now on ITVX.

As well as this, the release of Corriedale will also mark the launch of ITV’s new “soap power hour” scheduling pattern for the two shows.

ITV revealed previously that from January 2026,  Coronation Street and Emmerdale will move to a new scheduling pattern on ITV1, introducing a "soaps power hour" from Monday to Friday.

Fans can enjoy 30-minute Emmerdale episodes at 8pm, and 30-minute Coronation Street episodes at 8.30pm.

Episodes will continue to drop at 7am on ITVX, before transmission that evening.

ITV said that the new schedule "chimes with research insights that show 30-minute episodes attracted higher audiences in 2024", delivering "more digestible instalments of continuing drama that better fit with changing viewer habits".

Iain MacLeod, executive producer for continuing drama at ITV and ITV Studios, said Corriedale was inspired by his hatred of the M62 and jokingly blamed superhero franchise Marvel for the soap crossover.

He said: “It started from my dislike of the M62 motorway between Manchester and Leeds, in all seriousness.

“I’d spent about the last 10 years stuck on the M62 between Manchester and Leeds, and Corrie is obviously very Manchester, and Emmerdale is very Yorkshire, very Leeds.

“And I thought: well, actually, why don’t we draw on my negative experiences of commuting and find some drama in that? And so it was born from many, many hours of me sitting in traffic on the M62.”

MacLeod added: “I blame Marvel. They gave us the idea. ‘Well, hang on, if we’ve got all these superheroes, why not put them all in the same thing?’

“But also, I think it partly coincided with me taking over as the sole creative lead for both soaps. So I was then the decision-maker that was uniquely positioned to do that, whereas before, they’d operated slightly as separate entities.”

Corriedale will air tonight, January 5, at 8pm on ITV and ITVX.
