Ellen DeGeneres has "backtracked" on their plan to stay in the UK Cotswolds, with a surprise return to the United States.

The American moved over to the British countryside last year along with her actress wife of Arrested Development fame, Portia de Rossi.

Problems have arisen since the couple's move to Oxfordshire, with reports of flooding in the area where the house is located.

This prompted a recent move to a different mansion in the Cotswolds area, around 30 minutes from the last residence.

Now, national reports claim Ms DeGeneres has "backtracked" on her plans to stay in the UK with a return to the US scheduled.

The Mail on Sunday has revealed that the 67-year-old has told friends that she and her wife are planning to spend more time in California.

This is because they "miss their friends" as well as the sunny weather, apparently dreading the thought of another British winter.

A source said: "Ellen was adamant that she and Portia were going to stay in the UK while [President Donald] Trump was in the White House, but evidently she's changed her mind somewhat.

"She's been telling friends they are coming home soon because they miss them and can't take the winters over there, and Portia wants to act again.

"They will be here for the holidays and longer by the sound of it."
