The 55-year-old is scheduled to return to the city next month to perform at Macmillan’s Christmas carol service, Follow the Stars.

Taking place at Christ Church Cathedral, the annual concert in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support has been a highlight of the festive calendar for the past 28 years.

A statement from the event's organisers said: "A festive celebration of world-class talent that will delight everyone in the run up to Christmas, this year we are thrilled to be joined by the celebrated actors Abigail Thaw, Sally Phillips, and Ben Bailey Smith, and broadcasting legend Angela Rippon.

This year's charity event will take place from 8pm onwards on Friday, December 5.
